A murder suspect was spotted at a camp ground in North Guilford, Maine, on Monday.

A camp owner reported to police that he spotted Burton on his property around 12 p.m. The suspect then ran to Davis Pond and stole a canoe or kayak.

Maine State Police have been searching the area off Route 150, five miles north of downtown Guilford, since the confirmed sighting. Burton was wearing camouflage clothing and a black backpack.

Burton, a 38-year-old Parkman resident, is wanted in connection with the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Gebo, who was found dead in her home on June 5. Burton has been eluding authorities since Gebo's murder. He is considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities had warned locals and tourists that Burton may break into campgrounds around Guilford and Parkman over the holiday weekend. Monday's incident was the first confirmed sighting since June 17 when Burton was spotted along a snowmobile trail.
