A 33-year-old man from Nashua, New Hampshire is arrested and charged with multiple crimes after he assaulted an officer and initiated a pursuit in Lowell.
According to the Lowell Police Department, they received a call just after 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday about a man selling drugs and waving a handgun from inside a vehicle in the Xtra-Mart gas station lot at the intersection of Gorham and Elm Street.
Two officers approached Ross and asked him to exit the vehicle. Ross allegedly refused to comply while motioning as if to be reaching for something in the center console.
One of the officers grabbed Ross' arm, at which point Ross put the vehicle in gear and accelerated. Police say that Ross hit the officer's arm as he attempted to get away. The officers chased Ross until he abandoned his car near the Lowell Transitional Center and took off on foot.
According to police, when Ross was ultimately apprehended, officers found him in possession of more than 66 grams of cocaine, and a smaller amount of fentanyl. Officers also located a loaded firearm that Ross had discarded near the Center.
He's facing charges of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for a police officer, operating after suspention, speeding, unlawful possession of fentanyl with the intent to distribute, trafficking more than 36 grams of cocaine, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Ross is scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court Wednesday morning.
