Tornado Touchdown Confirmed in Wrentham, Mass.

The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Wrentham, Massachusetts, on Tuesday.

Meteorologists say the twister touched down briefly Tuesday in the town of Wrentham near the Rhode Island border as severe storms swept across the state.

The tornado registered at EF0, the lowest intensity on the scale, with an estimated maximum wind speed of 80 miles per hour. Its path was about a half-mile long and 200 yards wide.

No injuries or building damage was reported, but the twister toppled a large tree and snapped off tree tops and tree limbs.

Officials said the tornado was on the ground for about a minute.

The National Weather Service also says the alert service worked and likely saved lives.
