The animal cruelty case out of Pelham New Hampshire is turning into the largest case of its kind the town has ever seen.
The dogs are finally on the long road to recovery after being removed from a home in deplorable conditions.
Pelham animal control officer Allison Caprigno said over the course of two weeks, police took 16 dogs and eight puppies out of a home on Jonathon Road.
She added, some were locked in the bathroom, others in small cages, and the house was covered in feces and urine.
Caprigno said, "it's definitely hard. At the end of the day we're getting them out of these situations."
She told necn, the dogs didn’t have enough food or water and added that "bathroom breaks outside were few and far between."
The homeowner had upwards of 40 dogs and police are still trying to track down 15 of them.

The man's neighbor said he was a nice guy and never expected anything like this.
He said, "he might have gotten in too deep into rescuing and didn’t know how to get out."
Police say the homeowner was taking in dogs from rescues across the country.
Eventually the homeowner will be charged with several counts of animal cruelty, but there’s still a long way to go in this investigation.
