Check Out These Great New England Ice Cream Shops

Ice cream is one of the staples of the summer season

The best way to cool off on a hot day is to grab an ice cream cone. Here are some of the most popular spots in New England. 

Massachusetts:

Amorino - Boston
This shop is located right on Newbury Street and features artisanal gelato. Their flavors are constantly changing and the servers will even scoop your gelato in the shape of a flower on top of a waffle cone. 

Toscanini's - Cambridge
Voted the Best of Boston ice cream in 2014, this Cambridge shop offers ice cream, cakes, and coffee, as well as bakery items. They'll even cater your next event. 

Cape Cod Creamery - Hyannis and Yarmouth
With two locations on the Cape, this creamery markets their ice cream as "the smoothest, creamiest, most flavorful ice cream you can buy." They have more than 20 flavors and will scoop as many as you would like on top of a waffle cone.

Cherry Farm Creamery - Danvers
Located in Danvers, this creamer has over 35 flavors of homemade ice cream. If you're not in the mood for ice cream necessarily, they also have frozen yogurt and non-dairy sorbet. 

Rota Springs Farms - Sterling
This ice cream shop has much more than just ice cream. The grounds are complete with picnic tables and a petting zoo with goats. Before you head out, you can stop by the Farm Store and pick up some seasonal fruits and vegetables as well as homemade breads and jams. 

Crescent Ridge - Sharon
The best part about Crescent Ridge? They offer home delivery to many towns in the greater Boston area. Not only can you order ice cream but they also offer milk, locally raised beef and pork products, eggs, cheese, and breads.

Sullivan Farms Ice Cream - Tyngsboro
This store makes their ice cream right in the store. They offer more than 40 flavors on their menu as well as additional seasonal flavors and specials. 

Bedford Farms- Bedford, Concord, and Burlington
This shop offers over 60 flavors of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and soft serve ice cream.

Kimball Farm Ice Cream- Westford
Visitors can get their ice cream fix and also take a ride on bumper boats, play some mini-golf, or visit the driving range.  

New Hampshire:

Kellerhaus - Laconia
A fixture in Laconia, the family-owned Kellerhaus has been in business for 110 years. The shop features an ice cream smorgasbord where customers can dress up their cone or cup with a variety of toppings. The Weirs Beach institution hosts Dollar Cone Day every Wednesday, which draws big crowds.

The Common Man - Meredith
The waterfront restaurant in Meredith has a stand serving homemade ice cream and dozens of flavors. Grab a cone and snag a picnic table to enjoy the beautiful views along Lake Winnipesaukee.

Rock Salt Creamery - Sanbornton
The beautiful Heritage Farm property in Sanbornton houses Rock Salt Creamery. Owner Tom Morrison makes deliciously creamy homemade vegan ice cream using a cashew cream base. His process puts on quite the show thanks to a coldstone and liquid nitrogen unit.

Hayward's Ice Cream - Nashua
If you're looking for an ice cream shop in Nashua, head to Hayward's. You can get everything from ice cream to sherbert and frozen yogurt. If a cone isn't enough for you, grab a half gallon to take back home. 

The Inside Scoop - Bedford
Visitors to the Inside Scoop can grab a typical ice cream cone as well as an ice cream drink, a sundae, or their famous Bedford Blast which includes ice cream and toppings mixed together.

Annabelle's Natural Ice Cream - Portsmouth
Annabelle's has more than just your typical chocolate and vanilla ice cream. You can try some of their original flavors such as Mocha Mud Pie which has mocha ice cream with Hydrox cookies and pure chocolate chips or the Chocolate Chip with Kahlua which contains 100% Kahlua Liqueur and pure chocolate chips. 

M n M Scoops - Plymouth
Head to M n M Scoops and you can try one of their over 20 flavors and add as many toppings as you would like. Looking for something bigger? Try their famous Banana Split. 

Sanctuary Dairy Farm- Sunapee
Besides eating ice cream, visitors can enjoy the hiking trails, pick apples, and feed the animals. 

Rhode Island:

Lincoln Creamery - Lincoln
This creamery has all your favorite flavors of hard and soft ice cream that you can put in sundaes, banana splits, or shakes and floats.

Gray's Ice Cream - Tiverton
Gray's is open 365 days a year so you can pop in anytime. Choose one of their traditional flavors or try the seasonal and special flavors to give your sundae a twist. 

Spinnakers - Jamestown
Stop into Spinnakers and grab one of your favorite flavors. They offer four sizes: kiddie, small, medium, and large, so you can get your ice cream fix no matter how big or small it is. 

Maine:

Catbird Creamery - Westbrook
This creamery offers 5-12 flavors every day and rotates in seasonal flavors as needed. All the ice cream is made on site as well as their dairy free sorbets. 

Red's Dairy Freeze - South Portland
This shop opened in 1965 and offers all your favorites. 

Shaker Pond Ice Cream - Alfred
Shaker Pond offers over 60 flavors of ice cream. Not in the mood for ice cream? Grab some frozen yogurt, sherbert, or sorbet. 

Vermont:

Ben and Jerry's - Burlington
Craving one of Ben and Jerry's signature flavors? Stop into their Burlington location which is locally owned and operated. The store offers ice cream cakes as well and will even cater your next event. 

Chill - Montpelier
Looking for gelato in Vermont? Chill offers tons of different flavors and they just started opening the store 7 days a week. 

Carmen's Ice Cream - Lyndonville
Named one of New England's Top 18 Ice Cream Shop Destinations and one of America's Top 500 Sundae Places, Carmen's is a spot you'll definitely want to hit. Check out their menu filled with sundaes, homemade apple crisp, splits, and shakes. 

Connecticut:

Sweet Claud's Ice Cream - Cheshire
All of the ice cream, frozen yogurt, ices, tofutti, sorbet, and hot fudge are made on the premises. But make sure to bring some cash because Sweet Claud's doesn't accept credit cards. 

Cherry On Top Ice Cream Shop - Hamden
Known for their famous Belgian Waffle Ice Cream Sandwich, this shop is a must-visit in Connecticut. You can also pick up cakes and pies if that's more your style.
