Tom Brady, Bill Belichick Weigh in on Jimmy Garoppolo's Injury

Tom Brady is still suspended. Jimmy Garoppolo is hurt, but not ruled out. And Bill Belichick isn't revealing much. So who will start Thursday? (Published Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016)

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and coach Bill Belichick are speaking out about his injured replacement Jimmy Garoppolo.

In a news conference Tuesday morning, Belichick said that it wasn't unheard of to bring in another quarterback after Garoppolo's injury; however, he wouldn't comment on the second string quarterback's health.

"I'm a football coach, not a doctor," he said.

When asked if wide receiver Julian Edelman would step in as quarterback, a position he played while attending Kent State, Belichick didn't budge much.

"He hasn't done it in this league," Belichick said.

Belichick added it's possible that the quarterback position could be decided just ahead of game time.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Westwood One Sports the day before, Brady said he's proud of the way Garoppolo led the team on Sunday in its victory over Miami.

Brady is also confident he will spring back from his injury.

"It's a tough injury, especially your throwing shoulder, so you know, I feel for him. It's a tough injury, but I know he'll be back out there as soon as he can," Brady said.

Garoppolo likely will not start Thursday's game against the Texans.

Brady says the Patriots' third string quarterback, Jacoby Brissett, will be ready to play if needed.
