Two members of New Hampshire's congressional delegation are urging Fairpoint Communications officials to return to the bargaining table, saying the two-month strike not only has affected residential customers but jeopardized emergency communications and critical public safety services.

Sen. Jeanne Shaheen and Rep. Annie Kuster sent a letter Monday to Fairpoint CEO Paul Sunu encouraging his management team to negotiate a reasonable compromise with the more than 1,700 workers across Vermont, Maine and New Hampshire.

The two Democrats say the New Hampshire Public Utility Commission has received nearly 500 complaints since Oct. 17 about service outages, lack of information and long waits for repairs.

Sunu has said the unions on strike have refused to bargain in good faith.

Some members of the Maine and Vermont delegations have written similar letters.
