New Hampshire fourth-graders can get a free Christmas tree, if they're willing to venture into the White Mountain National Forest.
For years, those willing to cut down their own trees have been able to do so after purchasing a permit for $5. This year, fourth-graders who are participating in the federal "Every Kid in a Park" program and have valid passes can get a permit for free.
Permits can be picked up at the Forest Service offices in Campton, Lincoln, Gorham and Conway. Trees are for personal use only, not for re-sale, and each family may cut one tree per permit.
