New Hampshire Motor Speedway Executive Pleads Guilty to Lewdness

The executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway has pleaded guilty to one count of lewdness.

Manchester police say 53-year-old Jerry Gappens pleaded guilty in Manchester District Court on Thursday.

Lt. Brian O'Keefe says Gappens will pay a $500 fine and continue in counseling.

As part of the plea agreement, a police prosecutor dropped the charge from a Class A misdemeanor to a Class B misdemeanor.

O'Keefe says the plea deal was fair given the facts of the case and lack of a prior criminal record.

Police say they were monitoring illicit activities Jan. 21 when they saw a woman get into the passenger side of Gappens' SUV. Both were charged.

Gappens' lawyer, Tom Reid, said after his client's arrest that Gappens acknowledges using poor judgment.
