New Hampshire Statehouse Dome Restoration Faces Setback

Officials discovered the building's roof isn't strong enough to hold necessary scaffolding

Plans to restore the golden dome atop New Hampshire's Statehouse have hit a snag.

The project, which includes repainting the white base, re-gilding the dome with gold leaf and installing spikes to deter birds, was supposed to be finished in 2014, but the Concord Monitor reports that it was put on hold after officials realized the building's roof wasn't strong enough to support the scaffolding necessary to surround the dome.

Joseph Bouchard of the department of administrative services says the state is putting together plans to construct a permanent framework that will be installed on the roof. He says he expects the restoration work to begin this spring and be finished in 2015
