1 Dead, 8 Injured in 3-Car Crash in New Haven

One person dead and about eight were hospitalized after a three-car crash in New Haven late Friday night.

Police and EMTs from the New Haven Fire Department responded to the crash at the intersection of Howard Avenue and South Frontage Road at 9:49 p.m. The intersection was closed for several hours.

The front passenger in a Honda CRV carrying six people died at the scene and eight others in the crash were taken to hospitals in the area. A 42-year-old woman was driving the Honda, a 53-year-old man was driving a Volkswagen involved in the crash with one passenger inside and a 37-year-old man was driving a Mercedes Benz involved in the crash. 

A toddler and two kids were among the passengers in the Honda. One of them, a 12-year-old boy, is in critical condition at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

The ages and conditions of the others injured haven't been released at this time. The identities of the person killed and injured parties haven't been disclosed either.

Police are reviewing surveillance footage of the crash and collecting evidence. It's unclear who's at fault.

Parts of South Frontage Road, Howard Avenue, Howe Street, North Frontage Road and South Frontage Road were closed for several hours as police investigated.
