Nitrogen Leak at Boston Research Building

The building at 655 Huntington Avenue was evacuated. The buildings at 180 and 188 Longwood Avenue were also evacuated as a precaution, fire officials said.

The Boston Fire Department responded to a nitrogen leak at a research building on Monday morning.

The building at 655 Huntington Avenue, which is part of the Harvard School of Public Health, was evacuated around 7:10 a.m. The buildings at 180 and 188 Longwood Avenue were also evacuated as a precaution, fire officials said.

The fire department says the source of the leak was from 3,000 pound nitrogen tanks outside these buildings. The tanks were filled Monday morning and the pressure relief valve of one tank was releasing the gas.

No injuries were reported and fire companies began clearing the scene around 9:40 a.m. They said the people that were evacuated from the buildings would be cleared to re-enter shortly after.

The investigation is on-going.
