No Bail for Man Charged With Running Down Officer

Matthew Ostrander was held at his arraignment Monday on 17 charges including assault to murder

A Worcester, Massachusetts man charged with intentionally running down a police officer during a pursuit has been held without bail pending a hearing to determine whether he is a danger to society.

Matthew Ostrander was held at his arraignment Monday on 17 charges including assault to murder. The dangerousness hearing is scheduled for Thursday.

Police say the 47-year-old Ostrander was being pursued Saturday afternoon because he was a suspect in a Millbury housebreak.

Police say Ostrander struck Auburn Officer Luis Santos with his vehicle as Santos was laying down tire-deflation devices.

Santos suffered a concussion and a broken leg.

Police say the married father of four should be out of the hospital by the end of the week.

Ostrander's court-appointed lawyer had no comment outside of court.
