No Bail for Teen Who Visited School with Gun

Jonathan Villagran is scheduled to return to court next week

A 19-year-old Watertown, Massachusetts, man is being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing.

Prosecutors say Jonathan Villagran of Morse Street entered the premises of Milton High School on Wednesday to meet a 16-year-old girl he met online. They said Villagran was shaking and sweating and smelled of marijuana and alcohol. He reportedly made multiple attempts to gain access to the building, but the school principal interceded and delayed him until police arrived.

Police said Villagran was allegedly carrying a handgun, marijuana, rum and $3,000 in cash.

The school, which is on Gile Road, was locked down until just before 5 p.m. Milton Police said students were not in danger and the school was checked for safety.

Villagran pleaded not guilty on Thursday to carrying a firearm without a license, carrying a dangerous weapon on school grounds, possession of a firearm without a firearm identification card, disturbing a school, possession with intent to distribute a Class D drug and possession of liquor by a person under age 21.

He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday.

"He wasn’t intending to do anything harmful," said cousin Eddie Lopez. "I don’t know what he was there for."

Investigators tracked down that girl, a 16-year-old student at Blue Hills Regional Tech. She told police she met Villagran on meetme.com and because Milton High was on her route home the two planned to meet there for the first time.

"Obviously it was a mistake," said Lopez. "It’s the people he hangs around with, bad influences, because he wasn’t raised like that."

Adding to the confusion at the school, another teenager showed up at the school around the same time. He told school officials he too was there to meet with a girl. He was not found to have any weapon on him, and it appears the two incidents are not connected.
