No Bus Driver Strike, but School Unit Challenges Possibility

The union representing drivers in Belmont authorized a strike Monday

While there's no bus driver strike in New Hampshire and talks are scheduled to resume next week, one school administrative unit has filed an injunction request in court to challenge a possible strike.

The union representing drivers in Belmont authorized a strike Monday after rejecting the latest contract offer from First Student. Both sides hope for an agreement and met in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday. They plan to reconvene next Tuesday.

A First Student spokesman said no work stoppages were expected through Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Eagle Tribune reports the school unit representing the Timberlane and Hampstead regional districts has filed an injunction in Rockingham Superior Court to challenge a strike.

Superintendent Earl Metzler said he's ready to, "use every tool in the tool shed to protect the kids.''
