Northeastern University Professor Arrested in Sex Sting

The school said it is still investigating the incident

A Northeastern University professor was arrested as part of a prostitution sting this week.

Harvey Shapiro, 63, of Needham, was one of seven men arrested for seeking sex for a fee at the Hilton Boston Back Bay on Thursday, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office. He was arraigned Friday in Boston Municipal Court and is scheduled for another hearing on March 21.

According to the Northeastern University website, Shapiro is a faculty member in the Department of Education.

The school issued a statement saying it is still investigating the incident.

"Northeastern University will evaluate the entire set of circumstances around the allegations involving Mr. Shapiro and decide on the appropriate personnel action in accordance with our policies."

According to the district attorney's office, Shapiro and the other six men allegedly responded to an online advertisement posted by detectives assigned to the Boston Police Human Trafficking Unit and negotiated sexual conduct in exchange for money. They were all arrested at locations where they had agreed through phone calls or text messages to meet the undercover detectives.
