Officer Dragged 100 Yards During Traffic Stop

Police say two suspects dragged an officer for 100 yards with their vehicle.

Police in Provincetown, Massachusetts, arrested two suspects on drug and assault charges after they dragged an officer across 100 yards when police attempted to stop their vehicle.

Around 6 p.m. on Friday, police attempted to stop a vehicle at the intersection of Route 6 and Conwell Street. The vehicle fled through a red light and trapped the arm of a Truro police officer inside the car. According to police, the officer was dragged for over 100 yards across Route 6 southbound and onto Conwell Street.

The motorist, 63-year-old Gary Call, and the passenger, 41-year-old Joseph Drenel, were both arrested. A search warrant of Call and Drenel's residence on Bradford Street in Provincetown yielded drugs, scales, cutting materials, drug paraphernalia, an airsoft pistol with the tip painted black, an assortment of military-style knives, and five serrated double edged knives.

Call and Drenel have been charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act, three counts of assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to kill, failure to stop for police, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. They are held without bail pending their arraignment in Orleans District Court on Monday.

The Truro police officer was transported to Cape Cod Hospital where he was treated and released.
