Officials: Frat Suspended After Teen Drives Drunk, Crashes

A University of Rhode Island fraternity has been suspended after police say one of its members got behind the wheel while drunk and crashed into another car.

Matthew Laiennaro, 18, allegedly crashed into another car on Route 138 Friday night.

The other driver suffered minor injuries, but Laiennaro's passenger was hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police say Laiennaro told officers he had been drinking at the "Chi Phi” fraternity house just before it happened.

His arrest comes after a brawl at the frat house just over a month ago, which ended with three people injured and criminal charges for two URI football players.
