Officials Urge Beach Goers to Be Careful in Water

Beaches are packed on Labor Day weekend, but swimmers are being wary after shark spotting in Duxbury, Mass.

Just days after a shark was spotted in the waters off of Duxbury, Massachusetts, beach goers seemed unfazed Saturday.

"Sharks come and go, so I'm not too worried about it," said Jeff Danti.

Danti headed to Duxbury for Labor Day weekend despite seeing reports earlier in the week of what they could be sharing the water with.

State police video shows the 12-to-14-foot great white shark spotted swimming Monday near the shore.

This was followed by two more reported shark sightings in Duxbury and Marshfield, which later turned out to be sunfish, a creature looking similar to a shark to the untrained eye.

"It's not really unexpected," said Roger Meine. "It's Massachusetts Bay ... there's a seal population, there's plenty of food for big sharks."

Margie Brockman and her daughter aren't letting a few fins spoil Labor Day weekend.

"We love it here, it's gorgeous," said Brockman. "It's the last sunny day of the summer, so you have to come."

But even the brave who decided to take a dip admit they are also taking some added precautions.
