If you have a dog, you might want to pay attention to this.
More than 1,700 cases of a particularly strain of canine flu has ravaged a single county in Illinois, and Massachusetts has just seen its first case.
The dog, who lives with her family in Watertown, arrived at the MSPCA-Angell West on May 3 after a family trip to Chicago. She was lethargic, had a fever and was very sick, but is now recovering at home.
Dr. Jinni Sinnott of Angell's emergency and critical care unit believes it's only a matter of time before New England is struck with more cases.
The strain, dubbed H3N2, is not covered by the existing canine flu vaccine.
