16-Year-Old Fatally Shot on Bike

A 16-year-old boy has been shot to death in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, police confirmed Wednesday night.

Jonathan Dos Santos was shot while riding his bicycle on Fuller Street. He was taken to Boston Medical Center where he died from his wounds.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans and Mayor Marty Walsh addressed the public after the shooting.

Evans says the killing is not believed to be random. Even though 11 homicides have taken place in Boston so far this year, compared to 24 at this point in 2014, Evans explained that it's still not enough.

"One's way too many, and especially a 16-year-old. This hits home," said Evans. "We need the public to step up here."

"We're doing everything we can to continue to work to get guns off the street," said Walsh. "A 16-year-old boy lost his life tonight due to gun violence by an illegal gun on the street."

Two young males were seen fleeing the scene after the shooting. The first suspect is a teenager who was wearing a green hoodie with white strings, a white undershirt , blue jeans and sneakers with yellow soles.

The second suspect was also a teenager who was wearing a green hoodie, light-colored cargo pants with multiple pockets, dark sneakers and a green baseball cap with a white visor. The cap had cursive writing on the front and block lettering on the back.

Police are seeking witnesses. Anyone with any information is asked to call Boston Police at (617) 343-4470 or the TIPS hotline at 1 (800) 494-TIPS.
