‘Open Newbury Street' to Return Over 3 Sundays

Boston's Newbury Street will be traffic-free for three Sundays once again this summer.

Mayor Marty Walsh announced Monday that because of the success of last year's "Open Newbury Street", where the street becomes a pedestrian-only walkway, city officials want to do it again.

"Last year, Open Newbury Street was overwhelmingly positive for visitors and businesses alike, bringing thousands of people to the Back Bay neighborhood," said Walsh in a statement. "We're excited to bring the idea back this year, so residents and visitors from all over can again enjoy Newbury Street for an afternoon, free of cars. We look forward to working with businesses and residents to make this year's Open Newbury another success."

Open Newbury Street will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 23, August 13, and September 10.

The area that will be closed to traffic will be from Arlington Street to Massachusetts Avenue.

During those three Sunday's, parking will be restricted beginning at 8 a.m. and signs will be posted in the area to notify drivers of the temporary changes.

Patrons are being encouraged to utilize public transportation those Sunday's.
