Orange Line Service Resumes After Fire

Cause of the small fire is under investigation

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority says regular service has resumed on the Orange Line rail service after a small fire at North Station in Boston.

The MBTA said Orange Line riders saw lengthy delays Thursday afternoon because of the fire. The agency announced at about 3:45 p.m. that regular service had resumed.

Boston fire spokesman Steve MacDonald told The Boston Herald that firefighters investigated a report at about 3 p.m. of a burning switch at North Station that sent smoke into a tunnel and to other stations.

MacDonald said power to the Orange Line inbound track was shut off as firefighters responded.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
