Utilities have made some progress in restoring power after the first major snowstorm of the season hit New Hampshire and Gov. Maggie Hassan spent time Friday with people at a shelter at Allenstown Elementary School.
Many people at the shelter have been without power since Wednesday.
At peak, more than 200,000 homes and businesses were without power. That number was down to more than 127,000 by Friday morning.
The Gendron family has been using the shelter. Their dogs have kept warm at the local police department.
Ava Marie Gendron said, "We didn't have any TV, no computer, no lights, no furnace and stuff.
Sarah Gendron said, "I'm taking care of both my parents. My dad is recovering from a heart attack. My mom is already is already disabled and last night it got so cold we couldn't get the fireplace started, so this morning I woke everyone up and said were coming here."
Hassan is urging residents to check on their neighbors and the elderly.
She said, "They are working as fast and as hard as they can, but we will be talking with them about how they prepared for this event and whether they had enough crews right here in New Hampshire once we get the power back up."
Local
Public Service of New Hampshire reported most of the outages, at about 111,000, most affecting the southern part of the state. Unitil had about 8,730, most in the Concord area. It expected to have power restored to most customers by the end of the day.
New Hampshire Electric Co-Op reported nearly 8,000 still without power.
Green Mountain Power sent crews from Vermont to assist with restoring power. Roughly 42 line workers and 21 bucket trucks were sent.

• Laconia Middle School located at 150 McGrath St. in Laconia. The Laconia shelter will be open overnight. Call 2-1-1 for further information.
• Londonderry High School located at 295 Mammoth Rd. in Londonderry. The Londonderry shelter will be open overnight and is currently open.
• Nashua High School North located at 10 Chuck Druding Drive in Nashua. The Nashua shelter will be open overnight and is currently open.
• Rochester Middle School located at 47 Brock St. in Rochester. The Rochester shelter will be open overnight. Call 2-1-1 for further information.
• Rowell Community Center located at 12 Rowell Drive in Franklin. The Franklin shelter will be open overnight if needed. Call 2-1-1 for further information.
• Winnisquam Regional High School on Main Street in Tilton. The Tilton shelter will be open overnight and is currently open.
