PD: 5-Year-Old Left Alone in Transport Van; Driver Facing Charges

Police believe the child fell asleep in the van and had been there alone for at least a half an hour

A young child was left alone on a transport van in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Monday, and the driver is now facing charges, according to police.

Authorities say a woman noticed the boy alone in the van on Prospect Street around 9 a.m. and called 911.

According to police, the boy's family hired Nunes Transportation, of Methuen, to take the 5-year-old child to and from day care, but the driver allegedly forgot to drop him off.

Police believe the child fell asleep in the van and had been there alone for at least a half an hour.

They used information from his backpack to track down his family, who picked him up unharmed.

The driver is now facing several charges including reckless endangerment of a child, a misdemeanor.

Police are also looking to have the company's operation suspended while the matter is resolved in court.

The driver tells necn he has no comment.

Police say he will likely be summonsed to court at a later date and are thankful that the 911 caller spoke up.
