PD: Man Killed in Chase Was Under Investigation

New Hampshire state police say Eric Williams impersonated a Hampton officer

Police say a 33-year-old man who died this past weekend in the culmination of a high-speed police chase in Exeter, New Hampshire, was under investigation for impersonating a police officer earlier this month.

The Portsmouth Herald reports New Hampshire state police say Eric Williams impersonated a Hampton officer while attempting to buy police dashboard lights from a law enforcement equipment retailer on Dec. 7.

Chief David Hobbs says police received a call from Adamson Industries in Haverhill, Massachusetts, regarding a suspicious man named Eric Williams who claimed to be a member of the Hampton force but failed to provide police identification.

Hobbs says Hampton police had already made purchases at the store recently.

Williams died Saturday after he was ejected from his vehicle on state Route 101 with police in pursuit.
