The ships are in from more than a dozen different countries.

"Seeing these ships come from all around the world, what an amazing opportunity," said Mike Murphy. "It'’s also like a blast into the past, with the big sails, get to tour them, they're all from different countries, go on the boats, see what each one is like, lots of culture."

The tall ships here for the first time since 2009, and the first parade in 17 years.

"The ships are now all over the Seaport as opposed to down at the cruise terminal," said Sail Boston Executive Director Dusty Rhodes. "So anywhere you go in the Seaport District or Charlestown, there will be festivals, ships, parties."

Up to 3 million people are expected to see the ships, with some onlookers coming in Friday night to try and get a sneak peak despite the heavy rain.
