Connecticut state police said they found dozens of counterfeit credit cards and thousands of dollars in merchandise believed to be stolen when they stopped a driver for speeding on Interstate 84 in Vernon on Wednesday night.
Police said Marc Lazarre, 31, of Brooklyn, New York, was speeding on I-84 West just after 8:30 p.m. After stopping the car, state troopers realized that Lazarre was on parole and was not supposed to be out of state, according to state police.
When state troopers searched his car, they found several counterfeit, or “cloned,” credit cards with stolen credit card information, several gift cards, fake identification and $6,600 in merchandise believed to have been stolen.
Police took Lazarre into custody and charged him with speeding, third-degree larceny, credit card theft, credit card counterfeiting and third-degree identity theft.
Bond was set at $50,000 and he is due in court today.
