I-91 South Reopens at I-95 in After Fatal Crash

A dump truck driver was killed in the crash in New Haven, Conn.

A dump truck driver was killed on Interstate 91 in New Haven, Connecticut, on Tuesday morning.

State police said the back of his truck was up and hit an overpass.

Dave Chavannes, 50, of Bridgeport, was driving a truck for Lac Landscaping in Milford around 4:30 a.m. when the back of this truck hit an old overpass that connected I-95 South to Route 34 West, according to state police.

He was ejected after the truck hit a concrete support pillar, and he fell from the exit 1 off-ramp and onto Walter Street. police said.

Chavannes was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

I-91 South was closed at the I-95 South merger and the ramp and traffic was diverted for hours as emergency crews responded.
