Patriots' Nate Solder Announces Son Has Cancer

New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder shared the sad news Monday that his infant son is battling kidney cancer.

Solder, himself a cancer survivor, made the announcement Monday night while speaking at the Above & Beyond the Gratitude Gala benefitting the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, according to the Boston Herald. The foundation is named for a Patriots player who died of non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s lymphoma in 2007.

Solder's son, Hudson, who was born in July, was diagnosed with a kidney tumor last month and has already begun chemotherapy, the Herald reports.

Solder thanked fans on Twitter Monday night and asked them to support the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.

Solder himself beat testicular cancer in 2014 and remains on injured reserve.
