Patriots Trade Chandler Jones to Arizona Cardinals for Jonathan Cooper, Draft Pick

The New England Patriots have traded Chandler Jones to the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for second-round pick and guard Jonathan Cooper, the team confirmed Tuesday.

Sister station CSNNE reports Jones, a 26-year-old defensive end, was in his rookie contract's final year with the Patriots, which was valued at nearly $7.8 million.

The Patriots drafted Jones in the first round back in 2012. In four years, he amassed 217 total tackles and 36 sacks.

Cooper, also 26, was picked seventh overall in 2013. He missed that entire season with an injury, but made nine starts at right guard for the Cardinals last year.

The Patriots add a key piece to their offensive line, a notable weakness for much of the 2015 season, and add a relatively early draft pick.
