Paul Pierce Plans to Retire With Boston Celtics

It's been hard for Celtics fans to watch Paul Pierce play for other teams in the last few years.

Since Boston traded him and fellow champion Kevin Garnett in 2013, Pierce has played for the Brooklyn Nets, Washington Wizards and Los Angeles Clippers. But if he has his way, he'll put his Celtics jersey on again before he leaves the court for good.

Pierce said in an interview on Sirius XM NBA radio Wednesday that he would love to retire officially with the Celtics.

"I would love to do that," Pierce said, according to Comcast SportsNet New England. "I think, you know, I'll always be remembered as a Celtic. I had all my glory days, all my prime was pretty much as a Boston Celtic, so I think I owe the fans, and I owe myself, that much — just to put that uniform on one more time and go out that way."

After being drafted 10th overall by the Celtics in 1998, the Laker fan from Inglewood, California, led his childhood favorite's rivals for 12 years, averaging 21.8 points, six rebounds, 3.9 assists 1.4 steals per game in that time.

Following the 2006-07 season, in which the Celtics went 24-58, a disgruntled Pierce wanted out. But instead, General Manager Danny Ainge added KG and Ray Allen to the mix. The Big 3, alongside an emerging Rajon Rondo, charged into a championship victory over the Lakers the following season.
