Blood tests conducted last year on a group of Seacoast residents exposed to PFCs at the former Pease Air Force Base show toxins at higher levels than the rest of the U.S. population.

The Portsmouth Herald reports that test results from the state Department of Health and Human Services showed higher levels of PFOS, PFOA and PFHxS compared with the general U.S. population in 2011-12.

The blood tests were conducted on 175 people who were exposed to the toxins at what's now the Pease International Tradeport.

The state says the results are consistent with PFC blood testing done in 2015.

The city of Portsmouth closed the Pease base's Haven well in May 2014 after high levels of perfluorooctane sulfonic acid were found in its water supply.
