A 70-year-old pedestrian who had just left an emergency room for an evaluation of a fall has been struck and killed while crossing a street near the hospital.

The Woonsocket Call reports that John Brann of Woonsocket, Rhode Island, was hit by a car Tuesday evening.

Police say employees of Landmark Medical Center brought discharge papers to Brann in the emergency room, but he had already left. A hospital worker went outside and saw the accident scene.

Brann was declared dead at the hospital.

Police say the unidentified woman driving the car stopped immediately. No citations were issued.
