Pedestrian on Highway Dies in Crash

Rhode Island State Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian in Cranston.

Troopers responded to the crash at 2:45 a.m. Sunday on Route 295 south. Preliminary investigation suggests a motorist stopped in the breakdown lane. The passenger, identified as 20-year-old John Mota of West Warwick, exited the vehicle and began to cross the highway.

A motorist, identified as 33-year-old Robert D'Agostino of Warwick, struck Mota in the high speed-lane. Mota was pronounced dead on scene.

The crash is under investigation by Rhode Island State Police, the collision reconstruction unit, and the attorney general's office.
