Suspect in Custody After K9 Search in Pelham, N.H.

Police in Pelham, New Hampshire, say an 18-year-old suspect is in custody Tuesday night after a K9 search.

According to the town's police chief, the teen stole a handgun from his mother's gun collection in Windham and made threats about taking his own life or possibly harming others. He allegedly suffers from depression and had recently broken up with his girlfriend.

Earlier in the day, police urged residents to lock their doors and stay at home while they search for a male suspect.

The K9 search took place primarily around 188 Windham Rd. The road was shut down in this area. Police were able to track the teen's phone, leading them to his location.

A negotiator was able to get the teen to unload the gun and secure it in a backpack. The teen then voluntarily walked out of the woods and was taken into custody without further incident.

Officers from Salem and Windham, in addition to New Hampshire State Police, assisted on scene.
