A Pennsylvania man is being brought to Massachusetts to face charges in connection to a financial scam over the telephone, according to Norwood Police.

Police said Richie Winters, 26, of Reading, Pennsylvania, was arrested and held as a fugitive from justice following an investigation that began back in December.

Authorities had received a call from a victim that stated a person called her claiming to be her grandson.

The victim told police the caller first requested $1,450.00. In the second call, he requested another $1,450. The woman complied and the caller made more requests until she was out more than $8,200.

After putting the pieces of the investigation together, Officer Kevin Riley was able to identify Winters and found that he had a criminal history including receiving stolen property, theft and robbery.

Winters was in the process of being transported to Massachusetts on Monday to be arraigned on Tuesday in Dedham District Court.

Police wanted to remind residents to not accept calls from numbers that are not familiar to you and to never send money to a strange address via Western Union Green Dot cards, iTunes gift cards, or in other unusual ways.
