Person Struck, Killed by MBTA Commuter Rail Train in Somerville, Massachusetts

A person was struck and killed by an MBTA Commuter Rail train on the Fitchburg Line in Somerville, Massachusetts, on Monday afternoon.

MBTA Transit Police said they received a call around 12:20 p.m. for a report of a person who had been struck by a train at the Park Street grade crossing. Somerville Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.

Police on scene said said a male of undetermined age was trespassing on the tracks when he was hit by a Fitchburg Line train about 500 yard east of the crossing. The victim was pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the accident.

MBTA Transit Police and the Middlesex District Attorney's Office are investigating.

Foul play is not a factor.
