Police Arrest Enfield Mother of Seriously Injured Baby

The mother of a baby hospitalized with serious injuries in March has turned herself into police and faces charges.

Nicole Rousseau, 33, of Enfield, is facing charges of risk of injury to a child and cruelty to persons after her 2-and-a-half-year-old child was taken to Hartford Hospital to be treated for serious injuries in March, according to Enfield Police Chief Carl Sferrazza. The injuries weren't explainable by accidental cause, he said.

She was aware that her baby had been injured and didn't seek medical care, Sferrazza said. Police do not believe she was the one assaulting the baby.

The Department of Children and Families and Enfield police launched an investigation and arrested the father over the summer. The father remains in custody.

Police also obtained a warrant for Rousseau's arrest and she turned herself in on Tuesday afternoon.

Rousseau was separately charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.
