Police: Boxer Pushed Man in Front of Train

Daniel Sheehan is charged with assault to murder for punching Mark Souza so hard that he fell onto train tracks in Brockton, Mass.

Boxer Daniel Sheehan is behind bars Tuesday night after prosecutors say he punched a man so hard, he fell onto the path of an inbound train at the MBTA commuter rail station in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Not guilty pleas were entered in Brockton District Court on behalf of the 41-year-old defendant, who is charged with assault to murder and assault and battery after he allegedly hit 48-year Mark Souza.

Witnesses told police Souza had been drinking at the train station when the two men started to argue. They said Sheehan eventually punched Souza in the face, knocking to the ground where he hit his head on the train tracks.

"This was just a fight that had very bad consequences," said defense attorney Jacob Sheinhite. "It was one punch. They were fighting each other, and it does seem alcohol played a role."

The prosecutor said Sheehan is a professional boxer with a history of assault and batteries dating back to 1995. His bail was revoked regarding a pending assault and battery case out of Plymouth District Court, where he is scheduled to go trial in December.

Sheehan was ordered held on $25,000 in this case and is expected back in court next month.
