Police: Cell Phone Use Played Role in Fiery Crash

Using a cell phone is believed to have been a factor in a fiery crash involving a tractor trailer in Vermont on Sunday, according to the Lamoille County Sheriff's Department.

Authorities say the crash happened on Route 15 near the Nazarene Church just after 1:30 p.m., were crews responded to a report of a driver entrapped and a vehicle on fire.

The first driver, identified as 22-year-old Kelsi Sharron of Stowe, was driving westbound and allegedly looked down at her phone, crossing the center line and hitting a tractor trailer head on, which caught on fire.

The tractor trailer driver, 32-year-old Michelle Pike of Cabot, was able to escape after receiving second degree burns. Sharron, who police say was not wearing her seat belt, had to be extricated from her car and was air lifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, where she's listed in stable condition.

The sheriff's department says the investigation is on-going.
