Police Conduct New Search in Case of Murdered Maine Teen

Sixteen-year-old Joyce McLain was killed back in 1980

Police conducted a new search Tuesday in the case of a teenage girl who was murdered 35 years ago.

Maine State Police said they returned to East Millinocket to conduct a search where 16-year-old Joyce McLain's body was found more than three decades ago. The search was centered along power lines near Schenck High School, the same area police searched on Oct. 1.

Searchers spent several hours at the site and left shortly before 4:30 p.m. Police are not saying what detectives were looking for or whether anything was found.

Police said McLain's mother was told of the search after it had concluded for the day.

McLain disappeared while jogging on a summer night in 1980 not far from Schenck High School. Her body was found a few days later near the jogging trail she used. She had injuries to her head and neck.

No one has ever been arrested in connection with her death.
