Billerica Police Cruiser Struck During Chase

Police say the crash happened around 4 a.m.

A Billerica police cruiser was rear-ended during a pursuit on Route 3 on Thursday morning, according to police.

The crash happened around 3:35 a.m. while police were attempting to stop a wanted domestic assault suspect.

Police say Carolos Lomba, 45, of Revere, Massachusetts, hit the cruiser from behind and then fled the scene on foot. He was aprehended by police after about an hour.

The officer involved in the crash sustained minor neck and back injuries from the collision.

Lomba faces numerous charges including reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding, marked lanes violations, failure to stop for police, leaving scene of motor vehicle accident with personal injury, and resisting arrest.

He also faces charges from the Bedford police and Revere police. 

Additional charges related to the collision into the Billerica police cruiser are also being sought by the Massachusetts state police.

Lomba will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Thursday.
