Police: Driver Went Wrong Way on I-95 in RI

State police say a Rhode Island man has been arrested on drunken and reckless driving charges after he drove the wrong way on Interstate 95.

Police said they arrested 39-year-old Brian Rutter of West Warwick at about 1:45 a.m. Sunday after they got several reports from other drivers about a car going south on the northbound lanes of the highway through Providence.

Troopers eventually forced him off the road into the median in Warwick.

Police said Rutter failed field sobriety and breath alcohol tests.

He appeared before a justice of the peace who set his bail at $1,000 personal recognizance. He is to appear in district court July 20. It is not immediately known if he has an attorney to comment.
