Police Fatally Shoot Man Wielding Knife

According to Maine State Police, troopers shot the man after he cut a game warden in Chester.

Maine State Police troopers shot and killed a man who wielding a knife just before 6 p.m. in Chester, the department confirmed.

According to state police, 34-year-old Shad Gerken of Woodville had cut a game warden, but that injury was not serious.

Police responded Saturday morning, when neighbors said he was walking along the road off of Route 116 with the knife.

Sgt. Nicholas Grass, Sgt. Donald Shead, and Detective Gregory Mitchell were put on paid administrative leave in connection to the shooting.

The Maine Attorney General's Office is investigating.
