Police ID Officer Who Shot Man During Home Invasion

Police say officers responding to the home Saturday evening confronted two men

Police have identified the Lowell, Massachusetts, police officer who was placed on administrative leave after shooting an allegedly armed man during a home invasion.

Police say officers responding to the home Saturday evening confronted two men. Police said the officer shot 48-year-old Timothy Berry, of Haverhill, after Berry pointed a handgun at him.

Berry suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital. He and a co-defendant are scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Authorities on Monday identified the officer as Buntha Kieng. Police say one of the home invasion victims told them Kieng fired the gun after Berry pointed a handgun at Kieng. Authorities are investigating.

It's not clear if Berry has an attorney.
