An investigation is underway in Brockton, Massachusetts, after apparent human remains were found in the woods off of North Quincy Street near the local VFW post.
By late Sunday night, the crime tape was still up and investigators were still in the woods. They tell NECN they will be guarding the scene until morning when the search for evidence can resume.
Massachusetts State Police Spokesperson David Procopio said the homicide unit dispatched to Brockton at about 1 p.m. Sunday.
"They just pretty much told us to get away from the back," said Carrasco.
He says they told him there was an active investigation in the woods right behind his house and to keep his family inside.
"It's shocking, because I have a 2-year-old," he said. "It's frightening."
Detectives also stopped at Virginia Foley's home.

"They were just asking if I had seen anybody around or heard anything," said Foley, adding that she had not seen anything.
She has lived there for more than 50 years without a police presence like this, she says.
"We don't have much going on up here. It's a very quiet neighborhood," she said.
It's a neighborhood about a mile east of Downtown Brockton, where residents say their backyards run into conservation land.
"A lot of things can happen back here," said Alannah Healy.
But exactly what happened back there remains a mystery.
"It was scary, because it's too close to home," said Healy.
and scary because there are still so many unanswered questions...
One thing is clear - one person is dead. And for that, neighbors say their hearts go out to a family, somewhere, missing a loved one.
"It's not right," said Healy. "It's the holiday season, you don't want to have to deal with this kind of stuff."
State Police couldn't reveal many details of this case or whether or not the public is in any kind of danger. They referred NECN to the Plymouth County District Attorney's Office. NECN's calls for comment were not returned by 9 p.m. Sunday.
