Police: Drive-By Shooting Was Not Random

Police in Arlington, Mass. say the shooting occurred overnight into Wednesday in a residential area

Police in Arlington, Massachusetts, say a drive-by shooting was not a random act.

Police say the shooting occurred overnight into Wednesday at 21 Old Colony Road in the residential neighborhood of Arlington Heights.

At least six shots were fired, confirmed Chief Frederick Ryan of the Arlington Police Department.

"We do not believe that this is a random act," Chief Ryan said. "We think that this house was targeted by the suspects."

Police say the older couple that lives in the home were present at the time of the shooting. They were not injured.

"The home was occupied and there is a bedroom on the back side of where some of the bullets penetrated, so clearly somebody could have been injured and we're grateful that nobody was injured by all of the gunfire."

Marie Landers, a neighbor, says the shots rang out around 9:10 p.m. She says the couple has lived in the neighborhood for four decades.

"They raised their kids and they have their granchildren here all the time. This is just not that kind of a scene," she said.

Another neighbor, Eileen Cahill, added that the neighborhood is generally very safe and quiet.

Police say they have no reason to believe the community is in danger.

Arlington Police ask anyone with any information to give them a call at 781-643-1212.

The investigation is on-going.
