Police: Vehicle in Deadly Hit-and-Run Found

Authorities say they have the vehicle they believe was involved in a deadly hit-and-run in Saugus, Massachusetts, Sunday night.

Although no arrests have been made, state police say they have information suggesting who may have been behind the wheel at the time of the hit-and-run.

State police say they received reports of a pedestrian struck on Route 1; a 33-year-old New York man identified as Lee A Castoro, had been struck by a vehicle. Police are looking into other possible addresses for him.

Witnesses at the scene said a red vehicle struck the man and continued south on Route 1 without stopping.

The victim was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The identification of the deceased victim is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin.

It's also unclear why the victim was crossing the six lane divided highway,

"Walking across Rte. 1 is foolish, it's not the right thing to do, hitting somebody and leaving, that's another story, that's not right either," Bill Verbicky of Saugus said.

"Nobody has any consideration for anybody, they're speeding, so it didn't surprise me, it's sad but it's inevitable," Saugus resident Kim Calla said.
