Police in Truro, Massachusetts, are investigating after a man's pet Cocker Spaniel was shot to death while he was walking her off her leash.
The dog's owner told police Saturday morning that his 6-year-old dog, Sophie, was shot in the neck. Police and rescue team members tried to treat the dog, but she died on the way to Arc Angel Animal Hospital in Wellfleet.
The shooting took place on a trail at Cape Cod National Seashore.
Police are not releasing the dog's owner's identity.
